Welcome to the Website for the Newick Amateur Dramatic Society, NADS.
NADS is based in the picturesque village of Newick, East Sussex. We stage 2 major productions a year, in May and December, as well as a Murder Mystery evening in September, in the Village Hall.
Robert Baden-Powell the first chief scout lived in Newick, as did Sir Dirk Bogarde, who once trod the boards at Newick and was honorary President of NADS until his death. NADS was started in 1928 under the able leadership of Lionel Cox, a local nurseryman whose passion for theatre led him to build a theatre in Newick (the present village hall) in 1932 to mark the birth of his only son Derek.
The Hall has undergone significant development over the past few years and now has a new entrance hall with full disabled access and excellent facilities. The floor in the hall has been replaced and a new bar and fully equipped catering kitchen have been installed. Over the past few months the interior has had a facelift including installing a new roof lining.
NADS productions are well known for their warm welcome and we take pride in providing a true theatre experience. There's an induction loop for the hearing impaired, raked seating, a licensed bar and a separate area for the interval where you can relax with friends. There is even mulled wine and mince pies at the Christmas production!
NADs is made up of a dedicated band of around 30 volunteers from all walks of life who enjoy coming together to create great theatre – from the original conception through to the actual performances. If you are interested in knowing more about NADs, or would like to join our mailing list, please click here.
Please do have a look around the website - you will find information and pictures from our past shows as well as details of the other events we hold...
